In the latest issue of Current Research in Chemical Biology, PROXIDRUGS project leader Felix Hausch and collegues from TU Darmstadt review latest discoveries in the field of molecular glues, small proximity-inducing compounds that interact with two protein surfaces. Due to their beneficial pharmacological properties, molecular glues have moved to center stage in proxidrugs development. Whilst first molecular glues were discovered as natural products by serendipity, global efforts – i.a. within the PROXIDRUGS consortium – now focus on the systematic identification and de-novo development of fully synthetic molecular glues.
