Drug Discovery am Main - public event to mark the start of the second phase of PROXIDRUGS

Updated: 3 minutes ago

On 22 April, the PROXIDRUGS Cluster4Future together with its partner House of Pharma & Healthcare hosted a public event on the Niederrad campus of Goethe University - and was delighted to welcome a full house: over 200 citizens came to learn more about the cluster's current research.

Since 2021, PROXIDRUGS has been funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the Clusters4Future Initiative, developing new technologies and therapeutic approaches for difficult to treat diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, inflammation, and infections. The focus lies on a very young class of active substances: Proximity-inducing drugs.

To mark the start of the second funding phase at the beginning of this year, the cluster presented itself to the general public at this event. Guests included Hesse's Minister of Science, Timon Gremmels, and Mitja Müller, Head of Division at the BMBF.

In an engaging lecture, the renowned biochemist and structural biologist Nicolas Thomä presented the scientific principles of molecular glues, one of the cluster's research focus. During the subsequent discussion, the PROXIDRUGS project leaders Aimo Kannt, Daniela Krause, Ingo Hartung and Maike Windbergs responded to questions from the audience.

The subsequent reception provided a great opportunity for personal interaction with the cluster's scientists, bringing an afternoon of research and dialogue to a successful close.
